He's having a night that nightmares are made of, gives her a call, she's getting all made up. She'll put on a front and stay up, says boy don't wait up.
Don't wait up. Don't wait up.
An empty tank, the girl's a pill. He's bored in bed, so he makes the kill. While she's at the club, the show, the bar. The one he really wanted was just too hard.
Because she knows how he goes, and he's gone too far.
Don't wait up. Don't wait up.
How many nights has he made her sigh,
Or made the tears run down,
They're falling now,
She tries not to notice,
How the nights get colder.
The night gets colder.
And she never wonders,
She just tries to move on
Follows the minute hand
As long as she can
Until the night's gone.
And she drinks til she can't see.
Each one kills a memory.
And she can't feel that she's alone.
But she's known it all along.
Now put your eyeliner on girl, dry your eyes. With a razor smile she'll only bleed inside. And to be the one who escapes with her mind, she's commited to leaving the boy behind.
So don't wait up.
Kiss her hard and take back his scars. Make her forget who she's pretending you are. She moves to the sound to forget what she knows. Because he's at home, and he's not sleeping alone.
Empty and dead swirling in her head. She knows she still wants him, but she'll play cool instead. Cause all her wishing won't make it change. A lesson she's paid for with her pain.
It's all the same.
Yea, always the same.
Well his smile's a silver bullet, but she won't let him use it. If she doesn't get close he can't undo this. She's fragile as a doll and hard as rock. She's got a big heart, so sad that it's stopped.
Now there's a message from him, saying he's lonely. Through sobs she hears "I want you to hold me". She smiles and wonders what she's become. How this ice in her veins started out as love.
How many nights has he made her sigh,
Or made the tears run down,
They're falling now,
She tries not to notice,
How the nights get colder.
And she never wonders,
She just tries to move on
Follows the minute hand
As long as she can
Until the night's gone.
And she drinks til she can't see.
Each one kills a memory.
And she can't feel that she's alone.
But she's known it all along.
She'll distract herself, live in the music. Throws back a shot, gets into it. Out on the floor, and she's cheering for more. The singer screaming out his pain makes hers easily ignored. Play one more...
"....should I try this once again?"
Mayb...No!
Looking sweet on the street, stumbling home. Erases his number from her phone. Picks up a pack a cigarettes, then inhales it. She's fucking jaded, but she's damn well earned it.
Now sitting pretty on her roof at the end of the night, thoughts are colder than the wind outside. Came home alone, but she still feels fucked. Tries to bring back the anger, but she just gets numb.
She watches the sun come up by herself, sorry for the people she used and the love she can‘t help. But she does what she has to to get by. She’ll tell herself she doesn’t miss him, but she knows it’s a lie.
She tries not to notice how the nights get colder.
Tries not to remember how he used to hold her.
She gave her love.
Now she's given up.
She's so sick of breaking down.
So don't wait up.
